Nottinghamshire County Council has declared a "major incident" this afternoon following storm Babet which battered the East Midlands on Friday.

District councils and local councils, along with emergency services, have been made aware of the formal declaration and they've been told to expect more flooding across Nottinghamshire.

River levels continue to rise across the county, with the River Trent expected to peak on Saturday evening as flood water from Derbyshire surges down the river network.

Neil Clarke, cabinet member for transport and environment at Nottinghamshire County Council says rivers "are still rising".

"People who are living near rivers that may be or have been prone to flooding in the past are aware of the Major Incident and they need to take precautions should rivers continue to rise."

The Environment Agency is also actively monitoring levels on the River Trent and confirmed it is "highly likely that levels will peak and more areas will flood".

"The timings are not confirmed but are likely to be rising through the night and into tomorrow". The agency said.
